Sudanese Politics
Sudanese politics has been shaped by decades of conflict, military coups, and civil unrest. The country gained independence from British-Egyptian rule in 1956, and since then, it has experienced multiple changes in government, often through military intervention. The long-standing civil war between the north and south culminated in the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which significantly altered the political landscape.
In recent years, the political situation has been marked by the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir in 2019 after months of protests against his rule. A transitional government was established, aiming to lead the country towards democracy. However, challenges remain, including economic difficulties and ongoing tensions between military and civilian leaders.
