Stylohyoid
The stylohyoid is a slender muscle located in the neck. It originates from the styloid process of the temporal bone and inserts into the body of the hyoid bone. This muscle plays a role in elevating the hyoid bone during swallowing and speaking.
The stylohyoid is innervated by the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII). It works in conjunction with other muscles, such as the digastric and mylohyoid, to facilitate movements of the jaw and throat. Proper functioning of the stylohyoid is essential for effective communication and safe swallowing.
