Stepwells
Stepwells are ancient water storage systems found primarily in India. They are designed to provide access to groundwater, especially in arid regions. These structures consist of a series of steps leading down to a well, allowing people to reach the water level as it fluctuates with the seasons.
Built from the 3rd century onward, stepwells often feature intricate carvings and architectural designs. They served not only as functional water sources but also as social and cultural gathering places. Some famous examples include the Rani ki Vav in Gujarat and the Chand Baori in Rajasthan.
