Steppe Tortoise
The Steppe Tortoise, scientifically known as Testudo graeca, is a medium-sized tortoise native to the grasslands and scrublands of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It has a domed shell that can reach up to 30 centimeters in length, typically featuring a pattern of yellow and brown. This tortoise is well-adapted to its dry habitat, often burrowing to escape extreme temperatures.
Steppe Tortoises are herbivorous, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and flowers. They are known for their slow movement and long lifespan, often living for over 50 years in the wild. Due to habitat loss and illegal trade, they are considered vulnerable, prompting conservation efforts to protect their populations.
