The Desert Tortoise is a slow-moving reptile native to the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It has a high-domed shell that provides protection from predators and helps it retain moisture in its dry habitat. These tortoises can live for over 50 years and primarily feed on grasses, wildflowers, and other vegetation.
Desert tortoises are well-adapted to their environment, spending much of their time underground in burrows to escape extreme temperatures. They are considered a threatened species due to habitat loss, climate change, and human activities. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their populations and habitats.
