Statue of Athena
The Statue of Athena, also known as the Athena Parthenos, is a monumental statue created by the sculptor Phidias around 438 BC. It was housed in the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, located on the Acropolis of Athens. The statue stood approximately 12 meters tall and was made of gold and ivory, symbolizing the wealth and artistic achievement of ancient Athens.
The statue depicted Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare, wearing a helmet and holding a shield and a statue of Nike, the goddess of victory. Although the original statue no longer exists, its influence can be seen in various replicas and artistic representations throughout history, highlighting the importance of Athena in ancient Greek culture.
