Statelessness
Statelessness refers to the condition where an individual is not recognized as a citizen by any country. This can occur due to various reasons, such as discrimination, conflicts, or changes in national laws. Stateless individuals often lack access to basic rights, including education, healthcare, and employment, making their lives extremely challenging.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) works to protect the rights of stateless people and promote their inclusion in society. Efforts to reduce statelessness include legal reforms, birth registration initiatives, and advocacy for the rights of marginalized groups, ensuring that everyone has a nationality and the associated rights.
