State Flag of California
The State Flag of California, also known as the Bear Flag, features a design that includes a grizzly bear, a red star, and a red stripe at the bottom. The bear represents strength and unyielding resistance, while the star is a nod to the California Lone Star Flag of 1836. The flag was first raised in 1846 by American settlers in revolt against Mexican rule in what is known as the Bear Flag Revolt.
Officially adopted as the state flag in 1911, the flag's design is a symbol of California's history and independence. The bear depicted is modeled after a real bear named Monarch, who was captured in 1890 and later became a symbol of the state. The flag is a prominent emblem of California's identity and pride.
