California Republic
The California Republic was a short-lived independent state that existed in 1846. It was established by American settlers in response to the Mexican rule over California. The republic was declared during the Bear Flag Revolt, which was a rebellion against Mexican authority. The flag featured a grizzly bear and a red star, symbolizing the settlers' desire for independence.
The California Republic lasted only 25 days before it was absorbed into the United States during the Mexican-American War. The area eventually became part of the state of California, which was admitted to the Union in 1850. The Bear Flag remains a symbol of California's history and spirit.
