Bear Flag Revolt
The Bear Flag Revolt was a rebellion that took place in June 1846 in what is now California. A group of American settlers, frustrated with Mexican rule, declared California an independent republic. They raised a flag featuring a grizzly bear, symbolizing their new identity and resistance against Mexico.
The revolt was short-lived, lasting only about 25 days. It ended when the United States military took control of California during the Mexican-American War. The Bear Flag became a symbol of California's independence and is still recognized today, representing the state's history and spirit.
