Starburst Galaxy
The Starburst Galaxy is a type of galaxy characterized by an exceptionally high rate of star formation. These galaxies often produce new stars at a rate significantly greater than that of typical galaxies, leading to bright, luminous regions filled with young stars. This intense activity can be triggered by interactions with other galaxies or the presence of abundant gas and dust.
One well-known example of a starburst galaxy is the M82, also known as the Cigar Galaxy. Located about 12 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major, M82 exhibits a cigar-like shape and is undergoing a vigorous starburst phase, making it a subject of interest for astronomers studying galaxy evolution.
