Stanisław II August
Stanisław II August was the last king of Poland, reigning from 1764 to 1795. Born in 1732, he was a member of the Saxon dynasty and became known for his efforts to reform the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. His reign was marked by attempts to modernize the state and strengthen its institutions.
Despite his reforms, Stanisław II August faced significant challenges, including foreign intervention from Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The partitions of Poland ultimately led to the dissolution of the Commonwealth, and he abdicated in 1795. He spent his later years in exile in Saint Petersburg, where he died in 1798.
