StG44
The StG44, or Sturmgewehr 44, is a German assault rifle developed during World War II. It was one of the first firearms to combine the features of a submachine gun and a rifle, allowing soldiers to engage targets at various ranges effectively. The StG44 used an intermediate cartridge, which provided a balance between firepower and controllability.
This innovative design influenced many modern assault rifles, including the AK-47 and M16. The StG44's ability to fire in both semi-automatic and fully automatic modes made it versatile on the battlefield. Its introduction marked a significant shift in infantry tactics and weaponry during the war.
