St. Mary Mazzarello
St. Mary Mazzarello was an Italian educator and co-founder of the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco. Born on May 9, 1837, in Mornese, Italy, she dedicated her life to the education and welfare of young girls. Inspired by the teachings of Saint John Bosco, she worked to provide a safe and nurturing environment for girls, emphasizing moral and vocational training.
In 1872, she established the first Salesian school for girls in Turin, Italy. Her efforts led to the rapid growth of the Salesian Sisters, who now operate schools and institutions worldwide. St. Mary Mazzarello was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1951.
