St. Lawrence Iroquoians
The St. Lawrence Iroquoians were a group of Indigenous peoples who lived along the banks of the St. Lawrence River in present-day Canada. They are known for their agricultural practices, particularly the cultivation of crops like corn, beans, and squash, often referred to as the "Three Sisters." Their society was organized into villages, which featured longhouses made from wood and bark.
This group is believed to have been distinct from the Iroquois Confederacy, which emerged later. The St. Lawrence Iroquoians faced significant challenges in the 16th century, including conflicts with European settlers and diseases, leading to their eventual decline and disappearance from historical records.
