St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first native-born American to be canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. Born on August 28, 1774, in New York City, she was a devoted mother and educator. After the death of her husband, she converted to Catholicism and founded the first Catholic school in the United States in 1808.
In 1810, she established the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph, a religious community dedicated to education and charitable works. Elizabeth Ann Seton was canonized on September 14, 1975, and her feast day is celebrated on January 4, honoring her contributions to education and her faith.
