Sprained Ankle
A sprained ankle occurs when the ligaments that connect the bones in the ankle are stretched or torn. This injury often happens during activities that involve sudden twists, jumps, or falls. Symptoms typically include pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty walking.
Treatment for a sprained ankle usually involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation, often referred to as the RICE method. In some cases, physical therapy may be recommended to help restore strength and flexibility. Most sprained ankles heal within a few weeks, but severe cases may require medical attention or immobilization.
