Spinal Cord Injuries
A spinal cord injury (SCI) occurs when there is damage to the spinal cord, which can disrupt communication between the brain and the body. This injury can result from trauma, such as a car accident, fall, or sports injury, and can lead to varying degrees of loss of function, sensation, or mobility below the injury site.
The severity of an SCI is classified as either complete or incomplete. A complete injury means total loss of function and sensation below the injury, while an incomplete injury allows for some preserved function. Treatment often involves rehabilitation and support to help individuals adapt to their new circumstances.
