Spatial Hearing
Spatial hearing is the ability to perceive the location and distance of sounds in our environment. This skill allows us to identify where a sound is coming from, whether it’s a person speaking, a car honking, or music playing. Our ears work together to analyze sound waves, helping us determine the direction and distance of sounds.
The brain processes information from both ears to create a three-dimensional auditory experience. Factors such as interaural time differences and interaural level differences play crucial roles in this process. This ability is essential for everyday activities, including communication and navigation in complex environments.
