The Spartathlon is an ultra-distance running race that takes place in Greece, covering approximately 246 kilometers (153 miles) from Athens to Sparta. This challenging event is inspired by the ancient Greek messenger Pheidippides, who is said to have run this route in 490 BC to seek help from the Spartans during the Battle of Marathon.
Held annually in late September, the Spartathlon attracts runners from around the world, testing their endurance and mental strength. Participants must complete the race within 36 hours, navigating through various terrains and checkpoints, making it a true test of stamina and determination.
