Spartan hoplites
Spartan hoplites were heavily armed foot soldiers from the ancient city-state of Sparta. They were known for their discipline, training, and formidable fighting skills. Hoplites typically carried a large round shield called a hoplon, a spear, and wore bronze armor, which made them effective in close combat.
The training of Spartan hoplites began in childhood, as boys were enrolled in the agoge, a rigorous education and training program. This preparation emphasized physical fitness, endurance, and teamwork, ensuring that Spartan hoplites were among the most feared warriors in ancient Greece, especially during battles like the Battle of Thermopylae.
