Spartan Education
Spartan Education refers to the educational system of ancient Sparta, a city-state in Greece known for its military-oriented society. This system emphasized physical training, discipline, and obedience, aiming to prepare boys for a life of service in the Spartan army. From a young age, boys were enrolled in the agoge, a rigorous program that included sports, survival skills, and communal living.
Girls in Sparta also received education, focusing on physical fitness and health to ensure they could bear strong children. Unlike other Greek city-states, Spartan women had more rights and responsibilities, contributing to the unique social structure of Spartan society.
