Spartacist uprising
The Spartacist Uprising was a revolutionary movement in Germany that took place in January 1919. It was led by the Spartacus League, a group of leftist revolutionaries including notable figures like Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht. The uprising aimed to establish a socialist government in response to the political instability following World War I and the abdication of the German Emperor.
The uprising began in Berlin, where workers and soldiers protested against the government. However, the movement was met with strong resistance from the government and paramilitary groups, leading to violent clashes. Ultimately, the uprising was suppressed, resulting in the deaths of many participants, including Luxemburg and Liebknecht, and solidifying the power of the Weimar Republic.
