Southern Miwok
The Southern Miwok are a Native American group originally inhabiting the central and southern Sierra Nevada region of California. They are part of the larger Miwok cultural group, which includes both Northern and Southern branches. Traditionally, the Southern Miwok lived in small, semi-nomadic communities, relying on hunting, gathering, and fishing for sustenance.
Their language, also called Southern Miwok, is part of the Uto-Aztecan language family. The Southern Miwok people have a rich cultural heritage, including traditional crafts, storytelling, and ceremonies that reflect their connection to the land and their ancestors. Today, efforts are ongoing to preserve their language and cultural practices.
