South American Tapir
The South American Tapir, also known as the Brazilian Tapir, is a large herbivorous mammal native to the rainforests and grasslands of South America. It has a stout body, short legs, and a distinctive long snout that resembles a trunk. Adult tapirs can weigh between 400 to 900 pounds and are typically brown or gray with lighter markings.
These animals are primarily nocturnal and are excellent swimmers, often found near water sources. They feed on leaves, fruits, and aquatic plants, playing a crucial role in their ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal. The South American Tapir is currently listed as vulnerable due to habitat loss and hunting.
