Somme Battlefield
The Somme Battlefield is a significant site from World War I, located in northern France. It was the scene of one of the largest battles of the war, fought between July and November 1916. The battle aimed to relieve pressure on the French forces at Verdun and to weaken the German army.
Today, the battlefield is marked by numerous memorials and cemeteries, honoring the soldiers who fought and died there. The Somme region is also home to the Thiepval Memorial, which commemorates over 72,000 missing British and South African soldiers, making it a place of remembrance and reflection.
