Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway
The Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway was a railway line in England that connected Bath in the east to Bournemouth in the west. It was established in the late 19th century and became known for its scenic routes through the Dorset countryside and the Somerset hills. The railway was jointly operated by two companies, the Midland Railway and the Southern Railway.
The line was popular for both passenger and freight services, but it faced challenges due to competition from road transport. It ultimately closed to passenger services in 1966 and to freight in 1991, marking the end of an important chapter in regional transport history.
