Solomon's Temple, also known as the First Temple, was a sacred structure built in ancient Jerusalem during the reign of King Solomon around the 10th century BCE. It served as the central place of worship for the Israelites and housed the Ark of the Covenant, which contained the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The temple was renowned for its grandeur and intricate design, featuring gold, cedar wood, and precious stones.
The temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE during the conquest of Jerusalem. Its destruction marked a significant event in Jewish history, leading to the Babylonian Exile. A second temple, known as Herod's Temple, was later built on the same site but was also destroyed in 70 CE.
