Solanki dynasty
The Solanki dynasty was a prominent ruling family in western India, particularly in the region of Gujarat, during the 11th and 12th centuries. They are known for their contributions to architecture, including the famous Sun Temple at Modhera and the Rani ki Vav stepwell in Patan. The dynasty played a significant role in the political landscape of the time, often engaging in conflicts with neighboring kingdoms.
The Solankis were originally a branch of the Chalukya dynasty and are sometimes referred to as the Chalukyas of Gujarat. Their rule is marked by a flourishing of culture, trade, and the arts, which left a lasting impact on the region. The dynasty eventually declined due to invasions and internal strife, paving the way for the rise of other powers in Gujarat.
