Smudging
Smudging is a spiritual practice that involves burning sacred herbs, such as sage, sweetgrass, or cedar, to cleanse a space or person of negative energy. This ritual is often used in various cultures, particularly among Indigenous peoples of North America, to promote healing and purification. The smoke from the burning herbs is believed to carry prayers and intentions, creating a positive atmosphere.
During a smudging ceremony, the person performing the ritual typically lights the herbs and allows the smoke to waft around the area or over individuals. Participants may use a feather or their hands to direct the smoke, while reciting prayers or affirmations. Smudging is often used in conjunction with other spiritual practices to enhance mindfulness and well-being.
