Skiros horse
The Skiros horse is a rare breed native to the island of Skyros in Greece. Known for its small stature, the breed typically stands between 12 to 14 hands high. These horses are characterized by their strong build, long mane, and a calm temperament, making them suitable for various activities, including riding and pack work.
Skiros horses have a unique history, often associated with the ancient Greek hero Achilles. According to legend, Achilles had a horse named Xanthos that was said to be a Skiros horse. Today, efforts are being made to preserve this breed, which is considered a national treasure of Greece.
