Sirococcus conigenus
Sirococcus conigenus is a fungal pathogen that primarily affects conifer trees, particularly Picea species like Norway spruce. It causes a disease known as Sirococcus shoot blight, which leads to the wilting and dieback of new shoots, ultimately impacting tree growth and health.
This fungus thrives in cool, moist environments and can spread through wind and rain. Infected trees may exhibit symptoms such as brown, stunted shoots and needle discoloration. Effective management includes proper sanitation, monitoring for early signs of infection, and applying fungicides when necessary to protect valuable conifer forests.
