Sir Thomas More
Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) was an English lawyer, philosopher, and statesman. He is best known for his book, Utopia, which describes an ideal society based on reason and communal living. More served as Lord Chancellor of England and was a close advisor to King Henry VIII.
More was a devout Catholic and opposed the Protestant Reformation. His refusal to accept Henry VIII's break from the Catholic Church led to his arrest and execution for treason. Today, he is remembered as a martyr for his faith and a significant figure in Renaissance humanism.
