Sir George Bowen
Sir George Bowen was a British colonial administrator born on December 2, 1821, in Ireland. He is best known for serving as the first Governor of Queensland, Australia, from 1859 to 1868. Bowen played a significant role in establishing the new colony and promoting its development during a time of rapid growth.
In addition to his tenure in Queensland, Bowen also served in various other colonial positions, including as Governor of Victoria and New Zealand. His contributions to colonial governance and administration were recognized, and he was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1871. Bowen passed away on July 19, 1899.
