Sir Anthony Babington
Sir Anthony Babington was an English nobleman born in 1561. He is best known for his involvement in the Babington Plot, a conspiracy aimed at assassinating Queen Elizabeth I and placing Mary, Queen of Scots on the English throne. Babington was a supporter of Catholicism during a time of religious conflict in England.
In 1586, Babington and his co-conspirators were arrested after their plot was uncovered. He was tried for treason and executed in 1587. His actions and subsequent punishment highlighted the tensions between Catholics and Protestants in England during the late 16th century.
