Silesian weavers
The term "Silesian weavers" refers to textile workers from the region of Silesia, which is located in present-day Poland and parts of Germany and Czech Republic. Historically, these weavers were known for producing high-quality fabrics, particularly during the 19th century, when the textile industry flourished in the area.
Silesian weavers often faced challenging working conditions, including long hours and low wages. Their struggles led to significant social movements, including the famous Silesian Weavers' Revolt in 1844, which highlighted the plight of workers and called for better rights and conditions in the textile industry.
