Sikh Separatism
Sikh Separatism refers to the political movement advocating for an independent state for the Sikh community, known as Khalistan, in the Punjab region of India. This movement emerged in the 1980s, fueled by grievances over political representation, religious rights, and economic disparities faced by Sikhs.
The demand for Khalistan gained international attention during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the military operation known as Operation Blue Star, which aimed to remove Sikh militants from the Golden Temple. While the movement has lost momentum in recent years, it still has supporters both in India and among the Sikh diaspora worldwide.
