Siege of Zaragoza
The Siege of Zaragoza took place during the Peninsular War from 1808 to 1809. It involved the forces of Napoleon Bonaparte attempting to capture the city of Zaragoza, which was defended by Spanish troops and local citizens. The siege was marked by fierce fighting and significant casualties on both sides, as the defenders displayed remarkable resilience against the French army.
The siege consisted of two main phases, with the first beginning in June 1808 and the second in December 1808. Despite the overwhelming strength of the French forces, the defenders managed to hold out for several months. Ultimately, the siege ended in February 1809, with the French capturing the city, but the fierce resistance became a symbol of Spanish nationalism.
