Second Siege of Zaragoza
The Second Siege of Zaragoza took place during the Peninsular War from 1808 to 1809. It involved the forces of Napoleon Bonaparte, who sought to capture the city of Zaragoza in Spain, which was held by Spanish defenders. The siege was marked by fierce fighting and significant casualties on both sides, as the French aimed to suppress Spanish resistance.
The defenders, led by local leaders and volunteers, displayed remarkable resilience despite being outnumbered and facing severe shortages of supplies. The siege ultimately ended in a French victory, but the prolonged resistance at Zaragoza became a symbol of Spanish nationalism and determination against foreign occupation.
