Siege of Florence
The Siege of Florence (1529-1530) was a significant conflict during the Italian Wars, where the forces of the Holy Roman Empire, led by Charles V, besieged the city of Florence. The siege aimed to restore the Medici family to power after they had been expelled. The citizens of Florence, loyal to the republican government, defended the city fiercely.
Despite their efforts, the siege lasted nearly a year, leading to severe food shortages and suffering among the population. Ultimately, the city fell in August 1530, resulting in the re-establishment of Medici rule and significant changes in the political landscape of Italy.
