Siachen Glacier
The Siachen Glacier is located in the eastern part of the Karakoram Range in the northern region of India. It is one of the highest glaciers in the world, situated at an altitude of about 5,400 meters (17,700 feet) above sea level. The glacier spans approximately 76 kilometers (47 miles) and is a significant source of water for the surrounding areas.
Due to its strategic location, the Siachen Glacier has been a site of military conflict between India and Pakistan since the 1980s. The harsh weather conditions, including extreme cold and high winds, make it a challenging environment for both military personnel and scientific research.
