Shunryu Suzuki
Shunryu Suzuki was a Japanese Zen monk and teacher, best known for founding the San Francisco Zen Center in the 1960s. He played a significant role in introducing Zen Buddhism to the Western world, emphasizing the practice of zazen (sitting meditation) and the importance of mindfulness.
Born in 1904 in Japan, Suzuki began his monastic training at a young age. He later moved to the United States, where he wrote the influential book, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind. His teachings focused on simplicity, presence, and the idea of maintaining a beginner's mind in all aspects of life.
