Shanksville
Shanksville is a small borough located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It is best known for its proximity to the site of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, preventing further destruction in a major city.
Today, the Flight 93 National Memorial honors the passengers and crew who fought back against the hijackers. The memorial includes a visitor center, a wall of names, and a large, open space that reflects the impact of the events on the community and the nation.
