Sh2-162
Sh2-162 is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It is part of a larger complex of star-forming regions and is known for its striking appearance, which is primarily due to the ionization of gas by nearby hot stars. The nebula is approximately 2,000 light-years away from Earth.
This nebula is also associated with the Sh2 catalog, which is a collection of H II regions compiled by astronomer Sidney van den Bergh. Sh2-162 is notable for its rich structure and the presence of young, massive stars that contribute to its luminosity and color.
