Sever's Disease
Sever's Disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis, is a common condition affecting children and adolescents, particularly those aged 8 to 14. It occurs when the growth plate at the back of the heel becomes inflamed, often due to repetitive stress from activities like running or jumping. This inflammation can cause heel pain, especially during physical activities.
The condition is typically self-limiting and resolves as the child matures and the growth plate closes. Treatment often includes rest, ice, stretching exercises, and wearing supportive footwear. In some cases, a doctor may recommend orthotics to help alleviate symptoms and support the heel.
