Osgood-Schlatter Disease
Osgood-Schlatter Disease is a common condition that affects children and adolescents, particularly those who are active in sports. It occurs when the patellar tendon pulls on the growth plate at the top of the tibia, causing pain and swelling just below the knee. This is often due to repetitive stress from activities like running, jumping, or kneeling.
The condition typically affects boys aged 12 to 15 and girls aged 10 to 13, as they experience growth spurts. Symptoms usually improve with rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relief. Most children outgrow the condition as their bones mature.
