Second Republic of Korea
The Second Republic of Korea was a democratic government that existed from 1960 to 1961. It followed the First Republic of Korea, which ended after widespread protests against corruption and authoritarian rule. The Second Republic aimed to establish a parliamentary system and promote civil liberties, but it faced challenges, including political instability and economic difficulties.
The government was led by President Yun Bo-seon and was characterized by a multi-party system. However, it was short-lived, as a military coup in May 1961, led by General Park Chung-hee, overthrew the government, leading to the establishment of the Third Republic of Korea.
