Second Maroon War
The Second Maroon War (1795-1796) was a conflict in Jamaica between the British colonial government and the Maroons, descendants of enslaved Africans who escaped plantations and formed independent communities. The war was sparked by tensions over land, autonomy, and the British desire to control the Maroons, who had previously signed treaties granting them certain rights.
The conflict began when the British attempted to assert authority over the Maroon territories. The Maroons, led by leaders like Cudjoe, resisted fiercely but ultimately faced overwhelming British military power. The war ended with a treaty that reaffirmed some Maroon rights, but it marked a significant moment in the struggle for freedom and autonomy in Jamaica.
