Scottish Rebellions
The Scottish Rebellions refer to a series of uprisings in Scotland aimed at gaining independence from English rule. Notable rebellions include the Wars of Scottish Independence in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, led by figures like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. These conflicts were driven by a desire for self-governance and resistance against English domination.
Another significant period of rebellion occurred in the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly the Jacobite risings. These uprisings sought to restore the Stuart monarchy to the throne of Britain. The most famous of these was the 1745 uprising, led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, which ultimately ended in defeat at the Battle of Culloden.
