Scleritis
Scleritis is an inflammation of the sclera, the white outer layer of the eye. It can cause redness, pain, and sensitivity to light. This condition may be associated with autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, and can affect one or both eyes.
There are different types of scleritis, including anterior and posterior scleritis, which refer to the location of the inflammation. Diagnosis typically involves a comprehensive eye examination, and treatment may include medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms.
